Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Ethics and Community overview Judaism is a religious tradition with origins dating back nearly four thousand years, rooted in the ancient near eastern region of Canaan which is now Israel and Palestinian territories. Originating as the beliefs and practices of the people known as “Israel,” classical, or rabbinic, Judaism did not emerge until the 1st century C. Judaism traces its heritage to the covenant God made with Abraham and his lineage — that God would make them a sacred people and give them a holy land. The primary figures of Israelite culture include the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the prophet Moses, who received God’s law at Mt. Judaism is a tradition grounded in the religious, ethical, and social laws as they are articulated in the Torah — the first five books of the Hebrew Bible. Jews refer to the Bible as the Tanakh, an acronym for the texts of the Torah, Prophets, and Writings. Other sacred texts include the Talmud and Midrash, the rabbinic, legal, and narrative interpretations of the Torah. The contemporary branches of Judaism differ in their interpretations and applications of these texts.

Rethinking the Judicial Decision – Dan Vogel Urim and Thummim Some accounts refer to the seer stones as a pair of stones set in eye frames to resemble spectacles Joseph himself writing in his own hand, …the Lord had prepared spectticke spectacles for to read the Book therefore I commenced translating the characters… History, circa Summer , The Joseph Smith Papers. Other accounts refer to a single seer stone by itself, such as this one by Emma Smith, saying that the translating process had Joseph sitting with his face buried in his hat, with the stone in it, and dictating hour after hour with nothing between us… Emma Smith Bidamon Interview with Joseph Smith III, February Published as “Last Testimony of Sister Emma,” Saints’ Herald 26 1 October Apparently the spectacle version was with the plates in the stone box.

Some accounts state that they were only used for translating just the first pages of the Book of Mormon and were then taken from Joseph by the angel along with the plates, although there is no direct evidence that Joseph used the spectacle version of the Urim and Thummim for translating even the first pages of the BOM.

The accounts were reported in some newspapers but the reporters likely confused the spectacle version with the seer stone version as many Latter-day Saints did.

The church simply did not want all the truth to come to light.

Ultimately, God will reveal what is true in such matters and we must trust him for our answers. There is no correspondence whatever between archeological sites and cultures as revealed by scientific investigations and as recorded in the Book of Mormon, hence the book cannot be regarded as having any historical value from the standpoint of the aboriginal peoples of the New World.

Roberts, Jr, Smithsonian Institution, “As long as Mormons generally are willing to be fooled by and pay for the uninformed, uncritical drivel about archaeology and the scriptures which predominates, the few L. Sorenson, Brigham Young University, Overview: The Book of Mormon describes migrations of people from the Middle East to Central America, and further describes some features of their civilizations in the New World.

If the Book is accurate, archaeologists would expect to find numerous pieces of hard evidence in Central America that confirm the presence of these societies: Some hard evidence has been found in the past. However, they have all been subsequently shown to be pious forgeries. To date, no actual evidence to confirm the Book of Mormon has been found, although many LDS believers have faith that it will be uncovered in the future.

A popular saying in the field of archaeology is that no evidence of existence is not evidence of non-existence. The second and third migrations occurred circa BCE , between the times of the Assyrian and Babylonian victories over the Israelites.

Reference to a case where the given method did not work This is perhaps the most common objection of all. Creationists point to instances where a given method produced a result that is clearly wrong, and then argue that therefore all such dates may be ignored. Such an argument fails on two counts: First, an instance where a method fails to work does not imply that it does not ever work. The question is not whether there are “undatable” objects, but rather whether or not all objects cannot be dated by a given method.

The fact that one wristwatch has failed to keep time properly cannot be used as a justification for discarding all watches.

For example, Paul Dunn was not concerned about the literal truth of his tales.

The face had fine features, thin lips and large nose and its face was directed up at the sky. Unusually, the face demonstrated Caucasian features which were not consistent with any of the pre-Hispanic races of America. The discovery rapidly attracted attention, but just as quickly it slipped away into the pages of forgotten history.

He tracked down Dr Padilla who reported that he found the owners of the property, the Biener family, on which the monolith was found. The site was 10 kilometres from a small village in La Democracia in the south of Guatemala. However, Dr Padilla said that he was in despair when he reached the site and found that the site had been obliterated: We had located the statue too late. It was used as target practice by anti-government rebels.

The eyes, nose and mouth had completely gone. Padilla was able to measure its height as between 4 and 6 metres, with the head resting on a neck. Padilla did not return again to the site due to armed attacks between government forces and rebel forces in the area. The producer published a document written by Guatemalan archaeologist Hector E Majia who wrote: It was created by an extraordinary and superior civilization with awesome knowledge of which there is no record of existence on this planet.

Even the letter itself has been drawn into question with some saying that it is not genuine.

In November , church member David Allred purchased “as a hunting retreat” the 1, acre 5. A local newspaper, the Eldorado Success , reported that the temple foundation was dedicated January 1, by Warren Jeffs. The same day two teenage girls reportedly fled the towns with the aid of activist Flora Jessop, who advocates plural wives’ escape from polygamy.

Why would they listen to fringe pseudo scientific Mormon apologists over real scientists?!

There were no Ainu people when the Native Americans got here. I really doubt they sprout straight from under the ground. Well, there you have it — not a Hebrew in the bunch. The Book of Mormon is a Fraud. Wherefore, I, Lehi, have obtained a promise, that inasmuch as those whom the Lord God shall bring out of the land of Jerusalem shall keep his commandments, they shall prosper upon the face of this land; and they shall be kept from all other nations, that they may possess this land unto themselves.

And if it so be that they shall keep his commandments they shall be blessed upon the face of this land, and there shall be none to molest them, nor to take away the land of their inheritance; and they shall dwell safely forever. No evidence exists to support the LDS view and a plethora of evidence exists to refute it. Not a single secular archaeologist or historian supports LDS claims about the historical accuracy of the Book of Mormon. Come on people, the jig is up.

Only recently has the church finally stopped claiming Hebrews populated the Americas. They changed the intro to the BoM to reflect it. They no longer talk about current Native Americans as if they are direct descendants of Laman and no longer claim their dark skin is a curse. As for the Nat Geo article, I remember it.

The Stone Head of Guatemala that History Wants to Forget

He instituted a very strict rule that no blacks were to be ordained or given temple ordinances. Elijah Abel outlived Brigham Young and the validity of his ordination was repeatedly discussed by the brethren see All Abraham’s Children , p. The rationalization for restricting blacks developed over a period of years.

Before coming to this earth we lived as spirits in a “pre-existence”, during which we were tested; our position in this life whether born to Mormons or savages, or in America or Africa is our reward or punishment for our obedience in that life.

Here are some of the key things that they are probably telling you: Mormonism began in when a teen-aged boy in western New York named Joseph Smith was spurred by a Christian revival where he lived to pray to God for guidance as to which church was true. In answer to his prayers he was visited by God the Father and God the Son, two separate beings, who told him to join no church because all the churches at that time were false, and that he, Joseph, would bring forth the true church.

This event is called “The First Vision. Joseph was told it was the history of the ancient peoples of America, and that Joseph would be the instrument for bringing this record to the knowledge of the world. Joseph obtained these gold plates from the angel in , and translated them into English by the spirit of God and the use of a sacred instrument accompanying the plates called the “Urim and Thummim. It tells the reader that three groups of immigrants settled the uninhabited Americas.

They were led by God from their original homes in the Near East to America.

Judaism espouses belief in a monotheistic God, who is creator of the universe and who leads His people, the Jews, by speaking through prophets. His word is revealed in the Hebrew Bible or Old Testament , especially in that part known as the Torah. The Torah also contains, according to rabbinic tradition, a total of biblical commandments, including the Ten Commandments, which are explicated in the Talmud. Jews believe that the human condition can be improved, that the letter and the spirit of the Torah must be followed, and that a Messiah will eventually bring the world to a state of paradise.

Judaism promotes community among all people of Jewish faith, dedication to a synagogue or temple the basic social unit of a group of Jews, led by a rabbi , and the importance of family life.

A committee sent to De Witt ordered the Latter-day Saints to leave.

Background[ edit ] Shortly after what Mormons consider to be the restoration of the gospel, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in , Joseph Smith revealed that the Second Coming of Christ was near, that the City of Zion would be near the town of Independence in Jackson County, Missouri , and that his followers were destined to inherit the land held by the current settlers. If ye are faithful, ye shall assemble yourselves together to rejoice upon the land of Missouri, which is the land of your inheritance, which is now the land of your enemies.

Tensions built up between the rapidly growing Mormon community and the earlier settlers for a number of reasons: They believed—after a revelation recorded on June 6, —that if they were righteous they would inherit the land held by others “which is now the land of your enemies” in Missouri. Where there was a critical mass of Mormons in the community, they were frequently viewed as having sold the election to the highest bidder, although there is no recorded proof of this ever taking place.

Lilburn Boggs, as a Jackson county resident, and as Lieutenant Governor, was in a position to observe and assist in executing the tactics described by one Mormon historian: In Boggs passively saw community leaders and officials sign demands for Mormon withdrawal, and next force a gunbarrel contract to abandon the county before spring planting Executive paralysis permitted terrorism, which forced Mormons to self-defense, which was immediately labeled as an “insurrection,” and was put down by the activated militia of the county.

Once Latter-day Saints were disarmed, mounted squads visited Mormon settlements with threats and enough beatings and destruction of homes to force flight.

1838 Mormon War

Hello, I wonder if you could clarify something that has me puzzled. But Luke also wrote that Joseph and Mary had to go to Bethlehem for a census by Quirinius while she was still pregnant, and this event has been dated at 6 A. There have been no historical records to indicate that any Roman census was held prior to 6 A.

As we will understand in the unraveling of the theology, the Mormon discrimination against the Negro is the ultimate that can be had on racial grounds.

In , we found ourselves faced with a very serious decision with regard to a story that had been leaked to us concerning charges that Paul H. Dunn, who had served as a General Authority in the Mormon Church for many years, had been deceitful in his writings and speeches. As some of our readers may know, this was not the first time that we found ourselves sitting on a powderkeg. Since we began publishing material regarding Mormonism over thirty years ago, we have brought to light a number of documents which have been suppressed and other important material relating to the Latter-day Saints.

Some of it has been extremely controversial. Although we continued to publish the material, the suits were never actually filed.
